Electric Vs. Manual Toothbrushes

Which Toothbrush is Better?
One of the most common questions we hear is whether an electric or manual toothbrush works best? The truth is that it is that success depends on the proper use of either. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of brushing:
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush – Soft bristles clean your teeth and prevent your delicate gum tissue from damage. Use only the tips of the bristles because that is the part that does the cleaning. It is not necessary to press hard while you brush.
- Use the right-sized toothbrush – You need a toothbrush that allows you to get all the back behind your teeth. One that is too big will not allow this and one that is too small may not do a great job of cleaning your teeth.
- Be sure to brush all areas of your teeth – Brush all of the areas of your teeth including the chewing surface, front, back, sides of your teeth, and make sure to angle your toothbrush bristles toward your gum line to remove plaque that quickly develops there.
In some cases an electric toothbrush provides advantages. If you have challenged dexterity due to arthritis or some other condition, an electric toothbrush may help you do a better job of cleaning your teeth.
Some people also prefer an electric toothbrush because many of them come with timers that tell you exactly how long you have been brushing. That way you don’t rush through and do a poor job.
