How do you treat TMJ?

It is wise to get treatment for TMJ – Temporomandibular Joint Disorder - as soon as possible. The symptoms can be very annoying and sometimes debilitating for many people. Waking up every day with headaches and neck and shoulder pain (to name just a few of the symptoms), can be very disruptive to your life.

But there are other problems associated with TMJ that can do serious damage to your oral health. It is very common for people with TMJ to grind their teeth excessively, usually during sleep.

This constant grinding eventually leads to erosion of healthy tooth structure. Without treatment for TMJ this grinding can ultimately result in breakdown of the jawbone and even tooth loss.

If you experience any of the symptoms of TMJ, it is important that you visit your dentist to get a correct diagnosis. In many cases, the cause of TMJ is a misaligned dental bite. This is not a complicated problem to fix, and Childs and Childs Dentistry can very often resolve a misaligned bite without the need for complicated treatments.
